Before you go into a structured PvP match read this guide to Batlle of Kyhlo, Forest of Niflhel and Legacy of the Foefire with maps, instructions and strategies for each one. Some basic things you should focus on are taking control points and killing NPCs which are covered in depth. You should also learn the names of all the locations in each map. This will be helpful when trying to communicate where the action is with your teammates.
Structured PvP is all about team work so find a group of people that you enjoy playing with and can win with then just stick with it. You should focus on getting strategies together and finding a reliable build to fill a role for your team. Once you feel comfortable with your build and gear choices you are ready for some more skilled opponents. This is when you can join the structured PvP tournaments for better loot. To get a better advantage over the enemies, you should all use a program to communicate whether it be TeamSpeak or Ventrillo. This will let you coordinate better then if you had to type something out. Communication is key to winning a tournament and without it you will find yourself on the losing side more often then not. You should also use specific skills and abilities to gain the upper hand. If you can place in the tournament you will get some loot which includes Coin, Glory and PvP gear that you can keep or salvage to use it for crafting PvP gear.
If you don’t know how to join a structured PvP match see this post.
Battle of Kyhlo Map, Instructions and Strategies
Map

Instructions
- The first team to a score of 500 wins.
- Control capture points to earn points for your team.
- Defeat enemies to earn a small amount of points for your team.
- Use your team’s trebuchet to assist allies that are defending and capturing points.
- If your trebuchet is destroyed, bring a repair kit to it to make it functional again.
Strategy
If you want to win on the Battle of Kyhlo map you are going to have to focus on controlling capture points which is hard to do on this map. Don’t get caught up running down one guy or fighting away from control points. The control points in this map feel like they have the most separation between them compared to any other map. Because of this you are always better off getting a control point over a kill. Before you know it you will have doubled their score just from attempting to capture a point. There are three capture points in the Battle of Kyhlo: Windmill to the north, Clock Tower in the middle and Mansion to the south. There are also trebuchets in this map which are very powerful and should be used as much as you need it. The damage is incomparable to what you can do with your weapons so hop on a trebuchet and let it rip. When you start off the match its a good idea to use the trebuchet and give some cover to your teammates going for the Clock Tower. Also look to the sides for the other control points and even if they seem too far away to hit just go for it. They have the range to get to those control points and then some. You can also destroy the enemy trebuchet so before you get the Clock Tower have someone take that out too. If your trebuchet gets destroyed look for the repair kit and make it functional again.
Note: Mesmers are an ideal class to have on the trebuchet since they can use their portal to get the repair kit and get back to the trebuchet faster then any other class.
Forest of Niflhel Map, Instructions and Strategies
Map

Instructions
- The first team to a score of 500 wins.
- Control capture points to earn a large amount of points for your team.
- Defeat enemies to earn a small amount of points for your team.
- Defeat powerful NPC creatures to earn points for your team and to capture powerful buffs.
Strategy
Once again you are going to be going after control points in the Forest of Niflhel map, just like the others. The Forest of Niflhel is special since it has 2 NPCs, Chieftain Utahein and Svanir, that give you points and buffs for defeating them. They are located in the NW and NE corners of the map and have a 3 minute respawn time so keep going for them throughout the match. I like to start off the by running right for whatever NPC is closer and then head straight to the Keep to the north with the buff on. Chances are the other team will have done that as well but if they didn’t you will have a 50 point stat boost over them. If you have someone on your team that can do a lot of damage with one hit you can send them to steal the other teams boost. It doesn’t matter who does more damage to the NPC only who gets the final blow, so you can easily steal the buff. Just as the other maps maintain your control points because this is the main source of points to get a win. There are three capture points on this map: Henge to the west, Keep to the north and Mine to the east. Another strategy I like to use is to send one person to Henge or Mine the whole game and have the rest of the team focus on the other two points. This keeps the enemy distracted and makes it easier to hold the other two points.
Legacy of the Foefire Map, Instructions and Strategies
Map

Instructions
- The first team to a score of 500 wins.
- Control capture points to earn points for your team.
- Defeat enemies to earn a small amount of points for your team.
- Defeat the enemy Guild Lord in order to gain 100 points.
Strategy
Just like the other maps your main objective is to control capture points, this is going to be the most effective way to win a PvP match. There are three capture points on this map: Waterfall to the north, Graveyard in the middle and Quarry to the south. This map is similar to the Forest of Niflhel in that there are NPCs you can defeat in order to gain points. These NPCs are called Guild Lords and they awards 150 points if defeated. If you have a strong group you could just go and defeat them at the start of the match. This will take them out of the game completely and distract the other team at the same time. Most of the matches you play here will be decided on the Graveyard control point but you do not have to control it. A good strategy could also be to control Waterfall and Quarry and try to keep Graveyard neutral the whole time. Points will quickly build up in your favor and if you do down the Guild Lord that will almost guarantee a win.
Raid on the Capricorn Map, Instructions and Strategies
Map

Instructions
- The first team to a score of 500 wins.
- Control capture points to earn points for your team.
- Defeat enemies to earn a small amount of points for your team.
- Capture the underwater point in order to control the NPC creatures on the map.
Strategy
Just as in the other maps the best way to win the Raid on the Capricorn is to control capture points. There is one big difference between this map and the others, there is a control point underwater and it’s protected by sharks. My suggestion is to brush up on your underwater combat and go for the Ruins right away. Once you control the Ruins the sharks will fight by your side which is a huge advantage. It’s much harder to get this control point once the other team has it so get your teammates to go with you at the start of the round. Not only do you get the benefit of the sharks fighting with you underwater but now you can easily cut across the map through the water while the other team has to avoid it. Also if you are ever in trouble you can jump in the water and most people will not even follow you. Another strategy you can use is to utilize the cannon on the map which not too many people know about. You can take cannon balls off the ship in the middle of the map and bring them to the cannon. This will give you multiple shots you can fire to either control point on the sides of the map. This does a lot of damage and can bring the odds to your favor very fast.
Take Away
There are many ways to win a PvP match but the best way is to control the capture points. If you don’t there’s not chance you are going to win so even if you are alone you can still go for them. A lot of times control points will not be defended or there may only be one person there. If you can grab at least one buddy to go capture as many as you can. It’s easy to forget about capture points and the games end really fast so if you get them early you have a good shot at winning.
