This Ranger build for Guild Wars 2 will boost your pets abilities and in turn boost your own after choosing some traits. Using the Shortbow will help keep enemies at bay by providing abilities to cripple and bleed allowing us to kite when we see fit. This is a also good time for cute pets to start munching on legs for a great distraction. Your Signets are what tie everything together and provide the boosts for both you and your pet.
Ranger Build
Weapon Set
The Shortbow gives us the 5 weapon abilities we will be using in this build and all of them have a range of 1,200. One important thing to take note of is that the shortbow applies Cripple and Bleeding conditions. This allows us to cripple the enemy slowing their speed and apply bleeds for damage over time. While we spend time dodging and kiting the enemy, we will still be doing constant damage from our pets. Not only that but you and your pet will share buffs after choosing some traits.
Heal Skill
Use Healing Spring which heals, provides the boon Regen, and removes conditions not only from you but your allies as well which I am sure they will appreciate.
Utility Skills
As for the Utilities, we will enable all signets which is what allows us to buff your pet and yourself at the same time. Signet of Stone passively improves Toughness and when active your pet takes no damage from incoming attacks for ten seconds. And because of our Marksman trait we take no damage as well. Signet of the Hunt passively grants increased movement speed and when activated you and your pet will deal more damage. Finally, Signet of the Wild passively grants health regeneration and when activated you and your pet grow larger dealing more damage and gain Stability (immunity to cripple, chill, knockdown, launch, and knockback).
Elite Skill
For your elite skill choose Rampage as One. This makes you rampage with your pet gaining Fury, Might, Swiftness, and increases attack speed. Sounds all good to me.
Traits Breakdown
Focusing mostly on Marksmanship we get a ton of Power. In this line grab Signet Mastery reducing the cooldown of signets by 20% and Beastmaster’s Might granting might every time you activate a signet . Since we chose three signets earlier for our utilities these trait choices will have a great impact on our build. Last pick up will be Signet of the Beastmaster. This is what makes this build what it is. As stated before this trait is essential in that when you activate your signets they not only buff your pet but you as well.
Head to the Wilderness Survival trait line next increasing our toughness providing us with some survivability. First pick up Expertise Training which increases your pets damage. Next pick up Hide in Plain Sight which camouflages you when you are disabled. Last pick up Bark Skin which causes you and your pet to take 30% less damage when under 25% health.
Spend your last points in Beastmastery and pick up Speed Training which decreases your pets ability recharge time by 10%.
Play Style
When playing this build try to focus on staying away from your enemy. One way to do this is to use your cripple and dodge away to get space. You can also use your Concussion Shot which will daze or stun them. Use your pet as a distraction and buffer as much as possible. Also, don’t hesitate to use your signets when in a fight since they are what makes this build so powerful. Remember they are not only buffing your pet anymore they are buffing you as well so keep them up at all times.

Your build above says its 30marks 25 wilderness 15 nature, when in fact it’s 30 marks 30 wilderness 10 beast. Just sayin…
You say spend 10 points in Nature Damage at the start of “Traits Breakdown” but the last sentence says to spend them in Beastmastery. Just looking for some clarification.
Thanks for bringing that to our attention. It’s 10 in Beastmastery I have edited the other part out.
What other set of weapons do you use? Axe and warhorm?
I read everything and maybe I missed it, but what is this build based off of? Power, precision etc. Great guide, btw.
what are some strong pets to use for this tree?
I’m finding that toughness is a good way to keep your animal up so I prefer an arctodurus or a bear. I know some rangers like spiders (not necessarily in conjunction with this build). Spiders creep me out, so maybe someone can comment on them.
What type of weapons and armor should I be placing like precision, power, etc…? Thanks!!!
What runes Should be places with this builds armor and weapons?
I would use a vitality, healing, condition damage armor for this with runes that increase power to make up for what is lost from the armor. Maybe instead of putting 10 into the beastmastery line you can put it into nature to pick up the 5% vitality is converted into power, because the extra 2 seconds of cooldown time for pet skills doesnt give you too much. I would just worry about losing the 100 healing power, but the trait points can go either way.
