This Guild Wars 2 Ranger build makes use of the range of the Longbow with the Shortbow as our weapon swap to do some pretty nice damage. This build is for PvP so you can tweak it a little if your going to be doing PvE. The Longbow will do the most damage when at max distance so its best used in fights when you know you can kite or just stay ranged. The weapon swap to the Shortbow will be very useful when the target gains some ground on you. The weapon abilities do not have many conditions but we will gain a few through our pet, utilities, and traits.
As already stated, this build utilizes the Longbow with the Shortbow as the weapon swap for reasons stated above. The abilities of the longbow do more damage the farther away you are for the most part and has a knockback. When trying to kite, the Shortbow is better suited because of its crippling shot and concussive shot.
Healing Spring will be our healing ability. Using this is beneficial because it creates a spring that heals you, your pet, and allies. Your pet can always use some extra healing in PvP, trust me. It cures conditions for allies as well. Healing Spring is also a combo field so it is very helpful for your group when used with other finishers.
All of our utilities are survival based and work with our traits so they will recharge faster as I will show later on. First grab Sharpening Stone to bleed foes on the next 5 attacks. The next utility to pick is Quickening Zephyr. Upon using this, you and your pet gain quickness but can not be healed. Lastly, Lightning Reflexes will evade back with a crack of lightning while dealing damage and gaining vigor. This utility is a bit more on the defensive side but very handy in the heat of battle.
Entangle is perfect for PvP. Your target is immobile until your vines are destroyed while bleeding the target. Once they are immobilized you can melt them down with your Longbow from a distance.
Some may prefer a different pet but I really like to use the Marsh Drake for their Poison Exhale that releases a swarm of insects on multiple foes reducing healing by 33% and poisons.
The primary trait line is Marksmanship with 30 points giving us Power and Condition Duration. Steady Focus is a must for the plus 10% damage when endurance is full. Next is Eagle Eye which is also essential for this build because it increases Longbow range and increases its damage by 5%. Last pick up Piercing Arrows which allows all arrows to pierce targets.
Move on to Skirmishing, increasing our Precision and Critical Damage, next and place 20 points to pick up Sharpened Edges and Quick Draw. Sharpened Edges will help provide us with some extra conditions because it gives us a chance to cause bleeds on critical hits. Quick Draw allows our Shortbow and Longbow skills to recharge 20% faster.
Our final trait line is Wilderness Survival with 20 points boosting our Toughness and Condition Damage. Wilderness Survival recharges our survival skills 20% faster and benefits us the most since we used all survival utilities including our elite utility. For some defense, I selected Hide in Plain Sight for the last trait applying camouflage when dazed, knocked down, launched, pushed back, or stunned. This might change but for now its what I am rolling with.
When you are playing the Ranger build, always be aware of the situation. Staying at max distance and just unleashing your abilities is what you would like to do. I know this is not always easy so use your knockback and evades when necessary then weapon swap when your enemy gets up on you. Set your Sharpening Stone to your auto attack so it will always be activated and you will be ready to apply bleeds with your next attacks. Also activate Quickening Zephyr before a fight so you will gain quickness and you will not have to worry about its negative effect. Start off with Hunter Shot to make your enemy vulnerable then use your Rapid Fire to fire multiple arrows at your foe. Rapid Fire does massive damage so keep your target in line of site. And don’t forget to Entangle your enemy to immobilize and bleed them.
